Keeping with the theme

Okay, so I don't want to crowd this blahg with my stories of my diet, so I'm making sure to blahg all about it on my weight loss blahg. I really need to update that site. It's horribly outdated. I can't right now though because I completely reformatted my computer, installed WinXP and have nothing but yahoo messenger and firefox installed right now. (You know, the essentials ;) ) As soon as I can get the files I copied onto Drake's harddrive back onto mine, I'll be in business and able to update my site.

Hats, hats and more hats. I'm currently working my sausage fingers stiff crocheting up a bunch of hats. I have some people who want me to make some for their girls and I'm also planning on making at least a hat/scarf set for my niece for Christmas. I'm also still working on the blanket for my new niece, who won't be here until February. Wouldn't that be cool if she was born on Cole's birthday? Two little Valentine's babies just four years apart! How sweet.

FAtkins

So, I started the FAtkins diet...again. I lost 30 pounds doing it last time, then had my mom's yummy cooking over Christmas and managed to gain it ALL back in just two weeks time. Yikes! So, here I am, doing FAtkins again.

Yes, I know, I know, I've heard it all before, "But it's so bad for you. You can't eat fruits or vegetables. You're going to die of a heart attack!" Have you actually read the Atkins book? Do you know what the FAtkins diet actually entails? You do realize that you HAVE to eat veggies while on this diet, right? More veggies than I currently eat, in fact. I actually have to force myself to eat the veggies I'm supposed to eat everyday for this diet, and I'm in the induction phase where you eat the LEAST amount of veggies you're supposed to eat the entire time you're on the diet. It's not about steak and eggs all day everyday. The FAtkins diet actually makes me eat more than I EVER eat. Normally I eat dinner...and that's it...okay, and dessert and snacks throughout the night. LOL Now, I'm eating five small meals a day, which is SO much healthier than what I was doing before.

So, here goes nothing!

Hats and things

So, I got bored last night and decided to crochet up a quick hat. I'm rather fond of it. I was going to give it to my niece, but thought Emma would probably look so cute in it, so I tried it on her, and oh my goodness, it just looks like it was custom made just for her, so of course I had to let her keep it ;) Isn't she beautiful?

I felt like something was missing from the hat originally, so I crocheted up a quick flower and added it and it was just the thing I was looking for!

Of course, now Caitlin wants one, so I have to make her one this evening. I'm not sure how that is going to be possible though considering the...ummm...unhappy mood Sera has been in all day. If I'm not playing with her, she's screaming. I can be holding her, walking around, etc., but if she doesn't have my 100% undivided, singing, playing attention, she's screaming bloody murder. She's SO tired, but she won't sleep. I just don't know what's wrong with her. :( Hopefully it's something she'll get over quickly. Teeth, perhaps? I really have no idea :(

Oooh, gotta go...Desperate Housewives is on ;)

Hmmmm

So, I was trying to make this hat:

It's supposed to fit an adult. I wanted to see if I could tweak it a bit to make it fit a child so I could make one for my niece for Christmas. I crocheted it exactly how the pattern was written in the first place. The only thing I did differently was use a larger hook because I couldn't find my hook that was the size I was supposed to use. Using a larger hook usually makes the item larger than it's supposed to be. I figured it wasn't a big deal because this was only a practice hat to see how it turned out. Well, I made the hat. Problem is...it fits SERA! LOL Apparently I crochet a little too tightly. Even with the larger hook it turned out TINY. Maybe I'll use a size Q hook and see how it turns out. (Size Q is HUGE...I was supposed to use a size J, but used a size K. When I feel like pulling out my camera I'll take a picture of Sera in the hat!

Fluffy Mail!!!

I just LOVE getting packages in the mail! Yes, I lead a sad existance...mail is one of the highlights of my day. So anyways, I got a package from loveybums today! Two wool crepe covers, one wool interlock cover, one fleece cover (oh so soft!), four sherpa diapers, and my favorite...one organic velour diaper. Oh my gosh, it's so yummy! I just want to sleep on it, it's that soft. Too bad Ethan is just going to go to the bathroom in it. Hey, at least it will be soft against his bum! I will definitely be getting some more organic velour diapers.

I still need to wash and lanolize the wool before the kids can use it though. I've never used covers before, so I'm a little wary. Fuzzi bunz have been the only diapers I've used. They don't require covers, so this is a leap on my part. Fuzzi Bunz don't come in cute prints though, which is why I'm branching out. I haven't gotten any print diapers yet though, so so much for branching out for the cute factor! I've also switched to cloth wipes, which has Drake a bit skeeved out. Whatever. It's better for the environment, doesn't cost a fortune, and they're fun to make.

Oooh, I forgot to mention that my sewing machine fixed itself!!! How absolutely beyond cool is that? I'm so thrilled! Now I might be able to make my own diapers! YAY!

VAGINA VAGINA VAGINA

So, apparently people are up in arms about a teen magazine talking about and having pictures of a vagina. What is up with people and their hangups in regards to vaginas? I think it's sad how many people grow up having absolutely no idea how their body works, what is normal, what is not, etc. I'm not saying, "Hey, go out and touch yourself to find out what it's like down there!"

11 stores have pulled this magazine from their shelves. This magazine is targeted to teenage girls. This article talks about pubic hair, urinary tract infections, yeast infections, etc...things that girls should KNOW! It's not exactly prime masturbation material if that's what they're worried about. You can go get a Victoria's Secret ad for that. Besides, what exactly about the vulva is exactly nice looking anyways? It's right up there with the penis, in my opinion...not all that attractive.

I love the message they're now sending girls, "Hey, wanna find out how to apply your makeup to get your man? Want to find out how to get super sexy abs and look hot in a bikini? Want to find clothes that accentuate all of the parts of your body that guys find attractive?" That's great! Here you go! "Wanna learn about your body and when what you're experiencing is normal or not?" Oh no, we can't have any of that! That's just gross!

VAGINA VAGINA VAGINA. It's not going to hurt you. Heck, I'll go a step further... VULVA VULVA VULVA. OMG, the world is coming to an end! Hide your womenfolk and children, we're being overrun by oversexed left wingers bound and determined to make all of your children start having sex when they're 11 because they found out about yeast infections!!!!

Do you know how old I was before I found out that my vagina wasn't the whole area down there? Labia mawhat? Do you know how many WOMEN I've talked to who think they pee out of their vagina? Seriously! It's about time people are educated about their bodies. I'm not saying go and teach teenagers how to masturbate and have sex. Just teach them the basic mechanics of their bodies! If you can't even allow a teenager to know what's going on with their bodies, how on earth do you EVER expect them to seek medical help if there really IS something wrong going on? If the vagina is SO taboo that you can't even have a drawing of it in a magazine, how do you expect teenagers to be at least comfortable enough with themselves to say, "Hey, I think there's something wrong, I need to go get this checked out before it gets even worse."

Okay, so of course there's the train of thought that "that" stuff should be taught at home. I completely agree. I absolutely think that parents should be the primary teacher of sex, sexual issues, and everything that comes along with it. However, if you ARE teaching that stuff at home, how is it so wrong for them to be reading about it elsewhere? My feelings are that it's the parents who AREN'T teaching it at home that have the issues with it being in the magazine, which is doing their children an even greater disservice.

It's a vulva people. It's not going to hurt you. That is, unless there's something wrong with it and you aren't comfortable enough with it to go and get checked out.
